Hoi An: Silk, Noodles, & Thu Bồn River

After the tea house, I stumbled into a clothing store that was separated into 2 sides: organic cotton and silk. It was called Metiseko.

It did not look like a normal retail store, but an oasis. Whoever did the interior design for this place: bravo.

I ended up buying one cotton dress and one silk top; both were uniquely designed, unlike anything else I saw on this trip so far. They were on the pricier side, but the materials were high quality. I’ve worn the silk top in the tropical heat and I felt invincible.

I gave in and haggled for these “crocs” from a street vendor because they were really useful in the rain – got them for $4 USD! Unfortunately, I lost them when I came back to the US. They were probably the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.

Stopped by Madam Khanh (The Banh Mi Queen).

They really stuff it! And so cheap!!! $1.24 USD for veggies, pork, bbq pork, chicken, ham, eggs, pate, egg sauce, papaya and cucumber. Yes all in one!

When I met up with my G-Adventures group, we went to Oodles of Noodles which partnered with STREETS International, where they educated former street youths in hospitality and trained them to become an essential part of the tourism industry. They taught us to make all different types of noodles and at the end of the class, we got to eat some (not the ones we “made”).

We were served Mi Quang – a famous noodle dish in Hoi An and Central Vietnam. I love how fresh all the ingredients were!

After that, I had some more free time to walk along the river and capture some of these shots.

I was looking for pho to end the night, and found Phở Bò Phố Cổ, which was an unassuming low key spot with all locals there.

So delicious and affordable!! This bowl was under $2 USD. I was the only tourist there and everyone knew each other. No frills, clean broth, fresh veggies.
