I took a day trip to Saint-Émilion, one of the principal red wine areas of Bordeaux. This was the reason why I wanted to come visit Bordeaux in the first place. I went to Olala to meet my small group and driver/guide.
St Emilion was such a charming medieval village!
Our first winery was Chateau Chauvin.
We had a tasting of these three wines and some people in my group bought bottles to bring back home.
They had a picnic lunch set up for us. It was mostly cheese and a few slices of meat, and unlimited pours.
Our second winery was Chateau Siran in the Margaux appellation.
We got to see them on their first day of harvesting!
The tour included a pass-by of Chateau Margaux to take a few photos.
Winery #3: Chateau Desmirail
Their La Perle was very interesting – I almost wanted to purchase it but didn’t have a check-in luggage. It’s a WHITE wine – made from 3 Médoc grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cabernet-Franc, in oak barrels. It was definitely very unique especially in this region.
I waited in line for L’entrecote to open and got seated right away. Yep, it’s a chain, but no-frills. Service was fast, and the only thing they serve is steak with unlimited fries and salad. I was delighted to use my French that I had been practicing here, and the servers responded in French too!
Always order à pointe.
I got to see sunset with the beautiful Miroir D’eau serving as a perfect reflection. You can walk over it and some people got wet doing so! Every 15 minutes, it creates a mist.
I stayed here longer than I intended to, just people-watching and admiring the scenery. I also realized that on a solo trip, I can just listen to my own intuition and do what I want to do, without rushing and without answering to anyone. It was splendid and I felt so at peace.
Bonne Nuit.
