Bordeaux 3 Day Itinerary (Sept 2024)

September was the perfect weather in Bordeaux – not too hot, not too cold, just right. It was sunny everyday I was there! This was a solotrip for my birthday and I did exactly everything I wanted to do on my own time, and it was the best feeling.

Here is my brief itinerary for 3 days, which I thought was a good amount of time for my first time there:

Day 1: Get a canelé at La Toque Cuivrée, Cite Du Vin, Dinner at Les Halles de Bacalan
Day 2: St Emilion Day Trip , Dinner at L’entrecote
Day 3: L’Alchimiste Café, Free City Tour, Lunch at Le Quatrième Mur, stroll around Darwin area, Dinner at Atelier des Faures

Transportation: I took the tram from the airport to my hotel and it was so easy. The rest of the time I just walked everywhere.

Hotel: Novotel Bordeaux Centre – perfect location as I was able to walk from my hotel to where I needed to go everyday, comfortable room, modern and clean and spacious.

It was super easy to use the kiosks to buy a tram ticket
I loved the buildings here

When you’re in Bordeaux, of course you have to get a canelé – this is its birth place! There were lots of places that sold them, and I went with La Toque Cuivrée. You can choose between a small, a medium, and large size canelé – I picked the “Gros”, which was the large one.

It tasted like a custardy mochi rum cake

I walked along the water and checked out La Cité du Vin, the wine museum.

There was an audio guide to help you get to know the exhibits. Some of them were interactive and educational. I walked through the whole place in about an hour and a half.

The museum ticket also includes one glass of wine (of your choice!) to be enjoyed at the roof.

There was quite an array of choices. I went with a white since I knew I’d be drinking a lot of red here in Bordeaux for the next few days, and it was interesting that they even had this selection.
There were windows here to ensure your glasses didn’t fall out off the building

After I had my glass of wine, I went across the street to Les Halles de Bacalan, a food hall that had a bunch of stalls that featured different cuisines, little bites and drinks.

I decided to go with some pintxos to make up a meal – I was quite full!

I walked back to my hotel just as the sun was setting. I liked that it wasn’t crowded there, and it was peaceful just walking around admiring the buildings.
