Hoi An Must Do’s: Spa & Speakeasy (Nov 2023)

I woke up to a sunrise. And then a few minutes later, it was a torrential downpour, but only for about 10 minutes. Then back to sunny again! It was actually pretty peaceful listening to the rain.

First thing I did was look for a cafe. This became my daily ritual in Vietnam in any city. Look for a cool coffee spot before anyone else woke up and before I had to meet with my G-Adventures group. It was a time for ME, to enjoy something by myself. Phin Coffee was exactly that.

They had plenty of tables on the ground floor, and after I got my coconut coffee, I proceeded to the 2nd floor where they housed lots of plants.

I sat there for a while and people watched and listened to the birds chirping and kids playing and laughing.

I also overheard their group coffee class that was taking place downstairs. Sounded like so much fun!

After coffee, I went to get a massage at Suna Spa. One of their ladies picked me up on a motorbike from my hotel and I rode with her. It was actually such a cool experience.

It was the BEST massage I’ve ever had in my life. They treated me like a VIP, gave me recommendations on what kind of body scrub and massage I should get based on my skin, and my masseuse was SO thorough and amazing!!!!

At the end they gave me passion fruit and a choice of either cao lau or pho, the cao lau was LEGIT. I couldn’t believe all of this was included.

For my 3 hour full body massage, body scrub with mud & coffee, and facial combo, plus fruits and best noodles ever, it cost $62 USD. AND the lady gave me another motorbike ride back to the hotel! I think that was the best part.

I met up with a couple from my G-Adventures group and we went to explore the bar scene. Went to a restaurant/cafe that also serves cocktails called Moments.

One of these was “Fall for You”, which had white and red-pepper infused gin, mango, mint, tonic, lemon zest, and the other was roasted coconut rhum, which had condensed milk and coconut milk. I forgot what the third one was.

Next, we went to Mộng Nguyệt (Secret Bar), which was upstairs of a cafe – it took us a bit to find this place because it was so hidden.

They had a menu but would also customize your cocktail on request – just tell them what flavors you like!

Our bartender was great! He made me a personalized cocktail using Vietnamese gin.
