Hoi An: Lanterns & Rain (Nov 2023)

We arrived to Hoi An from Hue.

It had been raining and some parts of the town were flooded!

Hoi An is known for its plethora of lanterns and tailor shops. At first glance, it felt a bit touristy and kitschy with its souvenir shops. But as I got to explore the town on my own, I found so many inspirational artwork, cute coffee shops, and even cocktail bars (will show you in the next post).

It was such a sight to see. At some point of the night, there were even canoes on the streets where people usually walked!

We went into a tailor shop where everyone got to choose the style of clothing they wanted and got measured. It was critical that we went as soon as we got to Hoi An so that we could get the finished product by the time we left town (it takes 1-3 days on average). I opted not to purchase anything here, but it was interesting to see how people chose their styles, fabric, etc. The shop had books that showed you the type of styles they could make, but you could also show them pictures from your phone as well.

(Not my photo, one of the group members took this)

Some of the people in my group got measured for dresses and pants and one guy even got his wedding suit done there.

After that we went to dinner at Hong Phuc 2. This restaurant had 2 floors and we sat on the top floor where we had a view of the river.

Scallops

Cao Lau is a signature dish from Hoi An, so of course I had to get it. The noodles are SO chewy! I love that they come with pork and fresh herbs. Of course, I love everything else that the platter came with.

On the way out, we had to walk through ankle to knee-high water to get back to our hotel. What a memorable night!
